Turrentine Weekly Harvest Update

2012: Turrentine Weekly Harvest Update Monday September 17th

What’s happening in the vineyards as harvest progresses? The Turrentine Grape Team will be highlighting what they are hearing and seeing in the vineyards throughout California every week.

Interior

  • Lodi/Delta Pinot Noir looking good, above estimates
  • Zinfandel brix are gradually getting there, good size crop

Central Coast

  • Santa Lucia Highland Pinot Noir looks great and expect the same for the rest of Monterey County.  Good color and flavor
  • A slight amount of excess Pinot Noir in Santa Barbara County popping up
  • Still harvesting whites, reds are ripening in Paso Robles
  • Zinfandel, Merlot, and Syrah will continue to be harvested this week

North Coast

  • Pinot Noir and Syrah are expected to be above average
  • Chardonnay crop has a healthy looking harvest in Sonoma County
  • Reds varieties are projected to be harvested mid-October
  • Cabernet Sauvignon appears to be below average in Lake and Mendocino Counties; still a possibility for late sizing
  • Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc in full swing, starting to pick Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for still wine in Carneros
